Client:
Museum of Science and Industry
Chicago, IL
We were contracted by Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago to lower their 1941 Junkers Ju-87R-2 Tropical Stuka from the ceiling where it is displayed as part of an assessment and cleaning project at the museum. The plane, is one of only two Ju-87R-2 intact in the world. Once on the floor, it was cleaned in preparation for specialists and engineers to assess and photo-document the Stuka exterior and then digitally document the plane’s interior and exterior using 3-D laser scanning technology. Following the documentation the Stuka was moved back into position and re-suspended. During this project we additionally inspected all of the other aircraft that are suspended. This inspection included airframe condition and the rigging security and condition.
